Two people from Everett have been identified as those who died last weekend in a plane crash north of Reno, Nev.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office on Friday identified them as Paula Hincapie, 29, and Hector Moreno, 41.

The two were passengers in a small plane that crashed sometime over Memorial Day Weekend. Also killed was pilot Eric Ling, 47, of Roseburg, Ore.

The bodies were recovered on Wednesday, Washoe County sheriff’s deputy Armando Avina said. Their families had to be notified before their names could be released.

Investigators believe the single-engine Cessna took off on May 28 from an unknown location and never made its destination, Avina said.

The crash went undiscovered until Tuesday night, when a man told the sheriff’s office that he had spotted with his binoculars what looked like wreckage in the mountains.

A former strip club and property once belonging to the Colacurcio organized crime ring will be auctioned off next month.

The U.S Department of Justice will sell the former site of Rick’s and Talents West in Lake City to the highest bidder on June 29.

Rick’s and Talents West were owned and run by strip club boss Frank Colacurcio Sr. and his son, Frank Colacurcio Jr. The FBI froze all assets and shut the empire down, including Rick’s in Seattle, Fox’s in Parkland, Pierce County, Honey’s in Everett and Sugar’s in Shoreline, following a two-year investigation into prostitution at the clubs. Frank Sr. died in July of 2010, but Frank Jr. was convicted of racketeering in September of that year. He was sentenced to a year and a day in prison.

Officials will sell the properties for cash, with no contingencies on financing. Bidders must have a check on file for an initial deposit the day of auction – $100,00 for Rick’s and $50,000 for Talents West. The sale must close within 30 days, or the bidder will lose all of their deposit.

Everett police arrested the owner of Pecks Drive Market Thursday after a nearly four month investigation into fraudulent transactions involving food stamp debit cards.

A man first came to police claiming that his Electronic Benefits Transfer (“Quest”) card was stolen from his living space and another card was left in its place. When he went to use the card he discovered it wasn’t his. The man then checked the transaction history of his card to discover nearly $150 had been debited at Pecks, police said. The man told detectives he had heard the market was offering $.50 on the dollar to their fraudulent transaction “customers.” For example, if a card was swiped for $100, the store would give the card holder $50.

Undercover officers completed the same types of transactions on several occasions, police said. Detectives also found a huge increase in the amount of EBT redemptions – from $4200 in January 2010 to more than $50,000 in December.

The owner of Pecks – a 54-year-old Lynnwood man – was booked into jail for money laundering, trafficking in food stamps, and unlawful redemption of food stamps

Samuel Evans leaned on his crutches and hobbled from the courtroom, his stride shortened by age and assorted ailments.

Moments earlier, the 73-year-old Everett man on Monday had entered pleas to two slayings, including the oldest cold-case homicide solved by the Seattle Police Department.

Evans entered two Alford pleas to reduced charges of manslaughter in connection with both slayings, one in 1968 and the second in 1972. In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges that there is likely enough evidence for a jury to convict in the event of a trial. It is considered a conviction.

Evans faces a maximum of 20 years in prison when sentenced on June 10.

Police arrested a man early Monday in Everett who had shot at an officer.

Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said no one was hurt, but it could have turned out a lot worse.

Officers were investigating multiple crime scenes related to the case Monday morning. It began with a traffic stop at 33rd and Rockefeller streets just before midnight. Police did not give the reason for the traffic stop, but they did say the driver showed a gun to an Everett officer. The officer fired but did not hit him. The driver sped away.

The suspect was chased to another location at a park-and-ride where he exchanged gunfire with police and ran off. A police dog tracked him to an apartment where he was arrested.

Police have recovered a gun they believed was used in the shooting

Boeing is under investigation for allegations it price gouged the military. The Inspector General says it could jeopardize the company’s contract with a U.S. Army depot.

The allegations surround Boeing’s financial dealings with the Army’s Aviation and Missile Life Cycle Management Command (AMCOM), based near Huntsville, Ala. AMCOM bought parts for Chinooks made at the Corpus Christi Army depot and the IG says the cost was far higher than they needed to be.

According to the report, Boeing sold parts like a $12.51 “spur gear,” which is smaller than a dime, for more than $644. A $7.71 ramp gate roller, which is a little bigger than a quarter, was sold for almost $1,700.

The My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not an Option Tour ended Tuesday night in Everett. Sheen’s mostly one-man show has no real precedent. It was not stand-up comedy, although it was funny at times. It was not an interview, although he entertained questions from the audience. It was part motivational speech and part soliloquy, a free-form rant that was angry, insolent, but also gracious and earnest at times. He gave an 84-year-old woman in the front row the shirt off his back (a Mariners jersey) and appeared genuinely concerned when he talked about visiting Tuscaloosa, Ala., Monday. (Read More)
