Driver tried to beat train

A woman trying to maneuver her car around a railroad crossing arm is in the hospital after she was t-boned by an Amtrak train Thursday.

It happened around 7 p.m. where the tracks run alongside Lowell Snohomish River Road.

The car had stopped almost entirely on the tracks when it was hit, said Everett Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Goetz.

The driver was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, in what Goetz described as very poor condition. A dog that was in the car was killed.
